[Quick Update] Some items in the interim
I don’t have much of an update to share at the moment, but I wanted to pass along a couple of things that I’ve been going through while socially distancing myself…which is very similar to my pre-Covid-19 work-remotely lifestyle, just with fewer trips to restaurants and a lack of barbells.
First off, a few finance-heavy podcasts for you to delve into.
The first, Wall and Broadcast, has been defunct for a while but the presentation and subject material is fascinating. If Novatero ever gets around to a podcast (I’m a white, male Millennial with an inflated sense of self-assurance, so it’s only a matter of time), it will be a major influence on us.
Next, I’ve got to shout out Patrick O’Shaughnessy and his Invest Like The Best podcast. He’s been in my rotation for a while, but his content during the downturn has shifted focus to specific corners of the market that aren’t really being talked about. It can get jargon-y, but even a novice will pick up a lot from an episode.
Finally, I’ll mention The Meb Faber Show (Full disclosure: I’m working as a marketing consultant for Meb’s company, but I was reading his content way back when I was starting out at UCLA’s MFE program years ago). Meb does a mix of 1-on-1s with guests, radio shows that go into current topics, and episodes where he focuses specifically on research he’s just posted and/or written about. It’s a terrific mix of items, and he presents them in a step-by-step way that makes it easy for newbies to seasoned vets to follow along.
And a couple of articles/sites to read for when you get tired of following Covid-19 updates minute-by-minute:
A fairly comprehensive article for working out without a gym. I’m missing the rewarding haptic sensation of deadlifting, but this advice (and bumping my running mileage back up) has kept me sane this past few weeks.
Finally, the daily postings of Chris Graham, starting specifically with Shit that has to Stop: Socializing Losses and Privatizing Profits. Using $2T to paper over some structurally damaging holes in the wall is going to destroy us in the long term. Drink this one in, because there’s some big stuff coming along in this vein…
Finally, make sure you’re keeping safe and sane every day. We’re living in interesting times, and no one has an answer for a lot of our questions. Focus on what makes you happy, what makes you healthy, and what makes you hope for a better tomorrow. There is an end to this.
